Hi, am going to Marina and the Diamonds concerts at Manchester Cathedral on Friday May 4 and Sheffield Leadmill Saturday May 12. Looking for cheap hotel accomodation near the venues, have decided upon Ibis in Sheffield for a few nights as it's near the station and therefore near the venue. Manchester more of a problem, nearest hotel seems to be the Mitre but reviews are not great. Am also considering the Travelodge Manchester Central, maybe not brilliant but reviews say breakfast good. I'm only staying in Manchester for 2 nights and need somewhere near cathedral and walking distance from Piccadilly Station. Would prefer a chain (Travelodge cheap, Premier too pricey for me, Etap hotel Salford Quays too far away). Have used Ibis in France and always been very happy, is Ibis the best bet for both venues? Is the Travelodge really bad? reviews say staff very helpful but rooms not so good. Any opinions very greatly received, thanks for any help.
Thanks Nibble, will look at Gardens Hotel, looks pretty good to me. If all else fails will resort to Travelodge Manchester Central Arena. basically just looking forward to concert, Manchester Cathedral sounds like a great venue. Looking forward to a couple of days in a city I have never visited before...
I've had friends stay in Travelodge and it's ok, especially for the price. I went in their rooms and standard Travelodge to me.
It might get a little noisy on the weekends or if there is a big concert on somewhere as it's a very popular budget place to stay for nights out or people going to the MEN for concerts etc...
It's very central though - I'd say a 15-20 min walk from Piccadilly and 10 mins from the cathedral and very close to all the shops. The free hopper buses 1 and 3 also stop nearer it if you have luggage or it's wet.
ETAP would mean getting the tram there and back (or taxi or a long - and not recommended - walk if late) anyway so adding onto the cost.
