Harsh?
This boy committed an appalling crime and I am horrified that a 15 year old boy could violently rape a drunk 14 year old.
He has been sentenced to 3.5 years detention which I feel is not long enough. However, he has been banned from working with children for life.
I suspect that under the new laws any future partner will be able to access this information if she has children.
It seems that the courts are treating him like a paedophile and I cannot see how they can arrive at that conclusion. He raped a girl of a similar age to himself and there can't be any indication that when he is a fully grown adult he will be sexually attracted to minors.
I believe he should have had a longer prison sentence but the lifelong membership of the sex offenders' register is probably unnecessary at this stage.

I would also question whether or not he has been watching violent porn and considered his actions to be 'normal' sexual behaviour. The films all children can easily access these days are a far cry from furtive passing round and sniggering at Penthouse from my own youth.
Are the courts right?

The Register can be accessed by the Police, National Probation Service and HM Prison Service personnel. It is managed by the National Policing Improvement Agency of the Home Office. - Wiki
It is not just a register of Paedophiles.

Absolutely appalling, this was the poor girls first experience of sex, one can only imagine the effect this savage and vicious incident will have on her future sex life?
And not only on hers but also any future husband/partener relationship with her.
He may only be 15, but he is old enough to know that one just cannot take advantage of member of the opposite sex in such a way regardless of her drunken state.
Cannot understand how he will of any danger to children in future years though.

A sad reflection of our times, when a case such as this is deemed only important enough to be reported by one National newspaper and the Local one below.

I am still sickened to my stomach by a documentary I saw a few years ago.
It featured an 11 year old boy who openly watched hard core porn at home, his mother teasing him about the things he did when he watched it. (Trying not to be explicit here.)
He drank and smoked with his mother's consent - her view being she'd rather he be at home than acting up on the streets.
The very worst thing was his attitude to sex. He believed all girls wanted 'it' a certain way and liked it very rough. I dread to think what he's like now he's older.
