I have been a customer of Littlewoods catalogue for many years and for the very first time recently an order did not arrive. The order consisted of a number of garments totalling £90. I have telephoned them a number of times, first they told me to wait a week or two to see if it arrived. The next time they said they would get a manager to ring me and tell me what had happened - but no-one rang back. Now my statement has come with £90 of garments added to it, and I need to pay the first instalment of £20 by 4 May. If I don't pay, interest will be added.
Surely they can't treat me like this. I haven't received the order - can they really expect me to pay for it. I just don't know what to do.
Your posting suggests to me that you have made a purchase by use of a debit card. If that is the case your card providers are deemed to have purchased the goods on your behalf and they are legally responsible for any loss which could arise.
Telephone your card providers and report the matter to see what they say.
How does that suggest a debit card? Catalogue customers are usually on account.
I once had a similar thing with premier man who argued that goods had been delivered when they hadn't. I insisted they actually provided proof that they were delivered to me and they couldn't. They argued that the courier had opened the door to my porch and left them there and were still insistent that I paid up - until I pointed out with an email with a picture of my door that I had no porch for them to leave it in.

If you have an account with Littlewoods it becomes an issue for the firm to prove that the goods have been delivered. Do you normally sign for deliveries from the firm.?
Do as factor30 has suggested and report back to us about what has happened; with a view to further advice from ABers, if problems still prevail.

Thank you for all your help. Well tonight after my third phone call they rang me back and said the warehouse are looking for the parcel, and (for some reason) this will take another week. So they will ring me again next Wednesday to tell me whether or not my parcel has been found.
In the meantime I must pay £20 towards these items (which I do not have and might not want anyway - if and when they eventually turn up) otherwise I will be charged a fee of £12 for missing a payment.
So in effect I must pay £20 towards good that I do not have. As other than this order my account is clear.
This phone call for the first time suggested that if the parcel was not found my account would be reimbursed. So at least that is good news - but we have yet another week to wait.

When you order anything that will be delivered to your home, your contract is with the supplier of the goods and not the company that delivers it. If it does not arrive then the supplier is responsible for addressing the delivery problems and not yourself
if they cannot prove the item was delivered then no they cant charge you any ammount ,write back and explain the situation and keep a copy for future reference!
