because it's a challenge, and sometimes fun. It taxes your logic and thinking process.
I prefer them to the ordinary crosswords.
Challenging, fun and keeps the brain cells working.
once you get into them, they are very hard to put aside.. Try and do one each day, if you get stuck, welcome to the club.
Agree much more challenging, most straight clues can be solved by googling. With cryptic you have to look at all the possible interpretations plus the more you do them the more you collect a toolbox to use.
and if you need help, well there is AB, and look on the net for crossword solver, they are a good site for solving those that have you stumped..
I think there are a number of people on AB who also use that site.
To see if I can do them!

may try to do 1 at least once a week. i feel like my life was taken over by a quiz. or is it because of my obsession?
Oh they do become addictive,
I do them because it gives me a sense of satisfaction when an answer suddenly dawns on me. I also appreciate the 'cleverness' of the compilers.
I cannot do them either. I presume you have to think laterally - I resort to checking the answers and then try to make sense of the questions - frustrating - you bet.
the daily mail on saturday crossword is a trial, up to 170 clues, both cryptic and straight, so it can take a while.

whats ab
The Daily mail on Saturday is possibly the worst crossword published. I refuse to do it. Unlike the weekday ones it has simple clues as well as "cryptic" ones leading to the same answer. Usually the simple clue is merely the definition of the answer taken from the "cryptic" clue. I have put cryptic in inverted commas because the style and sophistication of them is far below that which pertains to the weekday crossword.
AB is what you're on.
...because we don't like to be beaten. We are, (mostly), competitive by nature, and just hate to lose. But then again... we could always pretend it would be too easy and walk away :)
lol - 'what's ab'.. that made me smile...

hiya mark i posted one last question please if you have a clue for 42.it appears that this cowboy could be a bounder. Is it a timepiece?
Like em10 I prefer them to ordinary quizzes where you can google to get the answers-more challenging Like to keep my brain active but have learned when to give in!!! That's when you can turn to AB (Answer bank) marg7.Lots of clever people there who are so helpful.
Is this a crossword or quiz question, marg? (and nobody on this thread is called Mark, it's "mark as best answer" - we've all done it!)
