Oh dear David Starkey has upset someone for speaking his mind, was this woman right to call him a racist, a bigot and a troll?

Seems not everyone agreed with her.

/// As Miss Penny continued speaking, Claire Fox, director of the Institute of Idea think tank stood up and told the journalist who has written for The Independent and the Guardian, that she was a disgrace to both women and the left. ///

For once I can agree with Starky. Had it not been for the fear of racism then this MIGHT have been solved much earlier, and the police have tacitly admitted as much. It's time we truly stamped out racism by treating all equally. That way these vulnerable young girls might not have suffered.
///He incensed audience member journalist Laurie Penny, when he said the sex gang, who were jailed last month for grooming white girls for sex, had values 'that were 'entrenched in foothills of the Punjab or whatever it is.'///

So do you think men in Punjab or whatever, go about in gangs preying on white girls?
I didn't actually say that, so I'll thank you not to distort my words?

To have views entrenched somewhere relatively primitive does not mean that everyone from there has those values, I accept that, but, like it or not, many Muslim men have terribly repressed views towards women, and this gang displayed a flagrant disregard for vulnerable girls, treating them like pieces of meat. Therefore his comments, while not applicable to all, are comments that I can at least say that I see where he's coming from.
I wasn't talking to you Duncer. I was answering the OP, surprisingly!
Unreserved apologies ummmm, I take it back immediately.
Dr Starkey seems a little obsessed. Wonder why he's only vocal on stories relating to blacks and Asians. Almost like he's got an agenda.

Also - for an intelligent man, I find it astonishing that thinks the Pakistani men come from the Punjab region (of India).

Perhaps he thinks 'they all look the same'?
he blamed the riots on black culture? No whites involved - or did he just not see them?

He sounds like a racist to me, only mentioning crimes if he thinks he can see a racial angle. There are other people like that around, I believe.
incidentally, I am impressed to see aog citing a former RCP member like Ms Fox, but as they say, politics makes strange bedfellows.
I think that there is also a Punjab region in Pakistan - but to return to the subject - how many ABers have Indian and Pakistani friends ?
Do they fit Starkey's description of them ?
I think it's Starkey who's a disgrace .
I have a few...and no, they do not fit the description.
Awful man.
I think he was dubbed the rudest man in Britain at some stage .
I think even the lovely Lucy described him as a mysoginist .
Total bigoted racist snob .Probably worried that his ratings have dropped in favour of more open minded people .
By the we can all upset someone for speaking our minds.

Eammon Holmes did so last week (with his views on bullying).

Starkey is saying that men from the Punjab share specific attitudes to white women. If Trevor Phillips said that the Baby P case illustrates how white Britons treat their kids (and there have been A LOT) of similar infanticide stories in the past 18 months), there would be an uproar.

Think of it - the number of stepfathers and boyfriends who have been convicted of killing children in their charge has become painfully frequent - but no-one says, "that's typical of white men", because anyone with half a brain knows that it's a slippery slope to assess an entire race based on the acts of a few.
What did fat Eammon say about bullying last week?
I'm guessing by the timing it might be this...take your pick.

So how come Starkey's getting the flak, when Claire Fox also thinks Penny is completely out of order? For once I too agree with the principle of Starkey's statement (although not with his words, I have several male Pakistani friends from that region and none of them are remotely like that).
I find myself agreeing with Holmes. I don't think just feeling bullied means you are bullied. Otherwise you end up with that silly actress a couple of weeks ago: someone said on Twitter they didn't like her, and the actress angrily claimed this was bullying.

But - back on topic - Starkey is still a racist.
Eammon once claimed that he was a victim of sectarian bullying when he grew up in North Belfast, but he and I grew up in one of the rar,e "mixed", areas in Norn Iron, so I wrote a letter to the Sunday Life claiming that he was talking a load of crap.

He then claimed that he had been misquoted. Seems strange that someone who would erroneously claim that he was bullied would then dismiss bullying so arbitrarily? Perhaps someone nicked that day's pie allowance?
how do you agree with the principle but not the words, boxy?
Ref the bullying, a bimbo commentator, by all accounts, was dreadful during the jubilee and, rather than take on board any criticism, dismissed it as the actions of bullies.

However, as already stated, Eammon is not to one to pontificate about bullying, given his past "stories".
Jno - in that he's wrong to make a blanket statement that all men from the Pubjab are like that - but even the local religious leaders were saying after the sentencing that many men from that culture think that white girls are easy game. Doesn't matter where they originate, the pack culture spots a vulnerable young woman and seduces them into seedy practices.
