M&S profits down? I have the answer!

I am very frustrated! My favourite jeans M&S Per Una Roma Bootcut size 18L have been discontinued in the longer length leg (32")
In their great wisdom, the buyers have decided that anyone who wears size 18 is obviously not a tall person so does not need the longer length, they are now only made in size 18 Short and Medium leg. The sizes 10 - 16 all have the longer leg lengths but anyone above a size 16 are now deemed to be short Ar*ses so they no longer need to sell them.

What stupid excuses M&S Customer Service came up with today when I rang them.
"You are in the FRINGE sizes madam and the longer length is not made in your size!"
What exactly IS a fringe size? It made me feel suicidal to be told this, and I do not consider myself to be grossly overweight!!!
"There is no call for them, our buyers have decided" (No, strangely nobody is buying them as they are NOT AVAILABLE TO BUY - numbskulls!)
I informed them that IMHO M&S profits are down as they are simply not giving customers what they require and they had just lost £70+ in sales as I wanted 2 pairs!

Anyone else frustrated with M&S - I think they have lost their way ...............

How ridiculous! I'd think there is more likelihood of them selling 18's in the longer length than 8's to be honest.

Write to them Ann, they might order you some or at least send you a voucher as an apology.
Frustrated too Ann. Whatever size I am M&S haven`t got it in stock but will order it. I want it now! I find knickers I like. They stop doing them.

Really have lost their way.

Ann - take a look here on Ebay, you might find what you are looking for.
I am overweight. I found that M&S are stuck in some sort of alternative world - I gave up on them years ago.

Even their food isn't worth the money these days.

I hope you find some other company who will be able to cater to your needs. I have short fat legs and it is a toss up as to whether my boobs or belly stick out more. :-)
I'm opposite Ann I used to be able to buy trousers Regular length or 29" now they seem to be all 31"length. the Short length seem to be too short. Lately I've been having to shorten the Regular ones. But I am finding it difficult to buy anything nice from there lately, especially comfortable shoes.

No maidup size 8 (and 6) are in the FRINGE sizes too apparently!! :)) so if we dare to fall within these sizes we are not allowed to buy jeans from them!!! I can't write, as I'd already emailed them and got the same infuriating reply - that's why I rang them. Apparently they have stopped making the longer length in my size! She meekly said she "would pass my comments on to the main buyer" but would not take my contact details as "they cannot give feedback on customer queries" - what an organisation!! :(
Hey Gran, if you're looking for shorter length trousers would you consider Mail Order? I have a heck of a job finding really short trousers for my mum and have found Witt International to have a reasonably good selection for her - 25inch legs! The Fifty Plus people also have them in the shorter lengths.

Thanks for the Ebay link Towie, the only ones in 18L bootcut are in black not blue denim, but I may keep a watch on them.
Thanks nungate, I'm usually a 29" leg but must've shrunk a bit can.t seem to get any decent ones in M&S any more.
Maybe I should have mentioned they also have some longer lengths as well Ann

I have two perfectly good pairs except that the knees have faded to white! I know its the fashion, ok for youngsters but not for me, looks too scruffy in my opinion! I have bought a Dylon dye in Blue Denim, wonder if that would work? Anyone tried the denim dye on jeans or jackets?
Question Author
Will look at the Fifty Plus thanks nungate, I have had ones from Matalan but they are a different cut and I hate those which fit just below the waist, most uncomfortable! so I like to try them on in store and Per Una ones fitted me like a glove :)
If its any consolation Ann, I'm larger than you and tall. Of all the jeans I've tried, I find the jeans in Sainsbury's fit the best.
Could you perhaps try some dye on a small patch of the white knees and see how that turns out? If that looks ok then maybe it would be safe enough to try it on the jeans proper.

That's handy to know thanks maidup, I will look out for a Sainsbury's on my travels, we don't have one close to us. Do all Sainsbury's stores sell clothes or are they like Tescos, ordinary stores and Extra?
Question Author
Could well do that nun - I've just remembered the dye, I only found out late today about them being discontinued and am still fuming! This decision could only have been made by a man :))
M&S aint wot it used to be ! I agree even the food has gone downhill, I only go there now as a last resort and I dont think I am the only one.
Anne try QVC they always do big sizes, website good too and no fuss returns.

Thanks Dee - will take a look at QVC :)
Ann, whilst I understand it's annoying that a shop stops making an item you really like they can't just keep making stuff that doesn't sell just because one person wants it. So you would have spent £70 on two pairs if they were there but how often would you buy two pairs of jeans? Just because they fit you well it doesn't mean there are hoards of other ladies with the same requirements. This particular size was obviously not much of a seller. Shops don't tend to stop producing items that are making them money. Didn't you have a gripe with their selection of skirts a while back too? If they tried to cater for every customers individual needs they'd have gone bust donkeys years ago. Saying it made you suicidal is a little OTT.

I'm a different size to you but off the top of my head can think of a handful of highstreet places that would likely have your size. Try Next, Evans, Dorothy Perkins, BHS, House of Fraser.
