I saw one mother the other day and her baby was called 'Tee-Jay'! When you hear names like that you can be almost certain to know what the parents are going to be like. It has also been found in studies that those people with these pretentious names have less chance of finding employment but of course this wouldn't even have been considered in the circles that these people move in.

Does the sun *ever* shine in dave50-land.........?
I was listening to a radio phone-in once and the person who called in had named their kid Pseudio (after the Phil Collins song). Poor kid.
lol you really are a miserable bloke aren't you. Some people might say that your parents were very unimaginative to call you dave
What names do you suggest Dave50?
One of my wife's colleagues decided to give her baby girl the name "Infinity". I think she gets called "Fin" for short.

Of course the sun shines in my land Jack! I only post things on subjects that bug me to see if anyone else agrees.
Maybe TJ was short for Thomas Jefferson or Teresa Jane or even something else.
Some people call my nephew AJ because his first and middle names are Anthony Jamie. I don't think he'll struggle fitting in certain circles with the name Anthony on his passport.
An aquaintance of mine has a daughter named 'Mir' the name of a brand of French washing up liquid.
The problem with generalisations like this is that there are numerous exceptions. Conversely, the fact it is a generalisation also means that there is also a large degree of truth in it too.
my expected grandchild is going to be called Willow if it's a girl............she'll still be beautiful just like her sister Weeping.........no seriously her sister is Anya Eliza. If it's a boy it is going to be Spike.
I haven't heard anyone called Spike for years, didn't it used to be a nickname rather than a given name?

My bugbear is people who can't spell their kids' names correctly, I've mentioned before our local ELLAWEEZ and MAXYMILLION....
You have a name like 'Dave' and you seriously post critisising other people's names?
What's wrong with that?

For years Rodney was called "Dave".
Never mind Dave, I like your name - I have only ever known nice Dave's. Me I prefer bog standard names, especially for men. And I have a good imagination. But each to his own. Children's names do tend to give away the 'class' of the parents - Rupert, Piers, Henry, etc.......... ;o)

re Spike

The only people I have ever heard of 'called' Spike were Spike Milligan (Terence Alan) and Spike Jones. I believe SJ was called that because, when young, he was very thin and was likened to the spikes used in constructing railway lines. I have no idea about SM.
Spike from The Choirboys?
Used to know a child named Tarnya, Boxtops!! Pronounced Taaaarrrrnnnyaaaaaaaaa by her ever shouting chavvy Mum.
Sorry

When I refer to SJ I mean SJ and the City Slickers
I worked in a public service industry for a long time and, I kid you not, I once encountered a young girl in the greater Falkirk region called Pocahontas McGinley.

Young Pocahontas would now be about 22.
