I noticed on TOWIE's thread that you mentioned your knowledge of the Krays. Opposite the London Hospital were two pubs frequented by the Krays...the Blind Beggar and the Grave Maurice. Although we as students mainly drank in the Good Samaritan (Sammy) behind the hospital.
One one Saturday night, we were in the Blind Beggar when the Kray twins came in, pulled a guy from the table and gave him a "right duff up" leaving him bleeding but conscious on the floor.
Nobody, just nobody stirred or lifted a finger to help the guy.

I was at Leigh on Sea by their little beach a guy stripped off and he had both Krays tattooed across his back - I felt physically sick.
I left the East End, changed my name and started a new life in Dubai.

I read a book recently written by the Teale brothers who were friends turned grasses on the Krays and it's fascinating but awful. It's hard to see why they have some sort of celebrity status and indeed hung out with many stars. The book confirms what you say Dee, they'd order the finest suits but the tailor never got paid and was never brave enough to ask. The brothers also make other terrible claims about things the Krays did even to hem. A very disturbed pair but I love reading about them.
their mother was a saint, she never told them when she had cancer and she used to visit one twin say in Dartmoor and the next day visit t'other so she could remember their messages this might be as far as Durham, she was drained but never complained she was brasic and they used to have a whip round in the pub to get her there, she worked as waitress in the dining room above the Bluecoat Boy pub in Liverpool Street now long gone.
When Billie Whitelaw played her character she was nothing like the woman I knew, she got it all wrong. But those boys were evil bullies but not in her eyes.
