Does anyone know why the Telegraph wants the date of birth when submitting the crossword?

I always leave it blank but does this reduce my chances of winning to zero (from eighteen billion to one)?

Maybe it just wants info on the age profile of readers/entrants.
Or maybe they ring you up if you win and use the DOB as a security question

I've wondered about the same thing so I propose to email the DT to get an answer. I did email them re the small amount of space to put ones name and address when submitting the GK crossword, the answer I received was they don't propose to enlarge it but I can give my details on a separate piece of paper and they will accept it. Do any of you puzzlers agrre that the space needs to be enlarged ?

Too right it needs to be enlarged. The Herculis crossword is mot user unfriendly with the name and address separated from the actual crossword.
