famous horses

can any plese help with these last 4 questions.i have racked my brain till it hurts.all answers are names of famous horses and winners of famous horse races. 35.magnificent without the EU.(6) 16.lead short fruit starboard and mix(7) (i have a answer to this but not sure if its a name of a horse) 13.Direction trailed after november day.8.soften and mix(6)

Dear Quizzers. Please read bullet point 4 on the reverse of the quiz sheet where you will see I have asked you not to ask for answers. I am happy for you to ask for "clues" but only after the 7th December as the quiz doesn't close until 21st December. I suppose I should be pleased that you are finding a few clues difficult. On a more positive note, it is very hard to think of new topics for quizzes so if anyone out there has any ideas then please let me know.
