stumped on one of my daughters homework question, write 9.65 in standard form.

The first number should always be between 1 and 10 so I agree with the 9.65.
But the answer is 9.65 x 10^0
(since 10^0 =1)

saladdodger's calculation would give
9.65 x 10^1
= 9.65 x 10
=96.5
which is wrong

The format you want is 9.65x 10º if it has to be in the standard form format
