Fleas from the cat!!
61 Answers
Had a kitten 2 days and it must have arrived with fleas!! We took the kitten off a friend at 7 weeks old as a present for my partners little boy.
However we are finding fleas in the carpet, the couch and on the animal. We have sprayed everwhere with flea stuff from the pet shop and the kitten has had flea treatment. My partner is hoovering twice daily and washing bedding etc...
But how long does it take to be finally rid and is there anything else we can do? We have just got our home perfect and its took the shine off our lovely house!

I took him to the vet and got some flea treatment from him, Advantage, I think. I asked about treating the house and he said it's pointless, the fleas can't live in carpets, etc. The flea treatment turns to powder and sort of sprinkles off the cat onto it's surroundings. It worked a treat almost straight away.
I didnt want to say "I told you so!" BUT I did have reservations and only gave in when I realised how much her little boy loved the kitten. But we have only been in the house 12 weeks and in only a short space of time turned it into a lovely home for all of us. Her sister says she will have the cat and the boy can visit as much as he likes, I like this option!!
We are having a couch delivered next week and new rug for living room and I just want everything to be perfect and as little extra hassle as possible.
I can see the kitten going......
I want the kitten to have a good start in life and with us being out of the hours a minimum of 4-5hrs at a time plus, as above, wanting to get the place how we want it, it should really go!

Boo - I dont take offence to your post, however judgemental you might sound! I am angry with myself for going with the flow and allowing the cat in the first place. We have been arguing all day about this.
I was inclined to keep the cat and give it a lovely home. But, having spoken with my partner properly, we realise that the animal would be better off with the sister who has kept cats before.
My partners motivation to get the kitten was because her 4 year old really wanted one and we thought it would be a good idea to teach him responsibilities as well as for company etc... The reality of fleas and the fact that the entire house has had to be hoovered, washed etc 2-3 times a day has made her re-assess, are we really the best people to have a kitten at this point in time. I will ensure that the cat has everything it needs at the sisters, I am fronting the vets bills and food etc for the first few months as a gesture. I am sorry people like me seriously annoy you, I assure I am a very caring and responsible person and I feel that I have let myself down by not putting my foot down in the first place.

Cats been treated.
Dead fleas are dropping off her onto the carpets.
The live fleas will apparently lay eggs in rugs/fabrics etc so my partner has become a bit OCD with the hoovering.
Im working away and want to just go home, I genuinely want best for the animal and I am angry with her!
It was because her boy is an only child and we wnated him to have a little friend around the house but thought it would teach him how to be responsible and care for something, install some values in him. We didnt just think "lets get a cute little cat" and now want to palm it off and I can see thats how some will see this
