In other words, explain how the programs of the Great Society developed, at least in part, because of events and policies that occurred in the late 1940s and throughout the 1950s. Finally, explain what is implied by calling this the “Great Society.”

When LBJ was told his plans for the Great Society would scupper the Democrats he replied that it's better to do what's right than what's expedient. Though probably not in those exact words.
