Thank you Cruciformist (where did you get that name?) for the answer crab. I was considering that myself but was puzzled by the words "seagoing latin type found in the tropics". Not a very good clue methinks. Regarding the other two: The Monty Python bunch were six and also I don't see where they were hand picked. The dumber one also does not feel close enough. I wondered if it could be ass but again not a very good clue.
