Just over a year ago my daughter and her friend took over a shop in Lichfield and launched The Sewing Shop , which, as the name suggests, is a haberdashery shop. It was not a new shop and had been there for years but was becoming very run down and did actually close for 2 weeks. In those 2 weeks the girls took over the lease and spent every waking hour painting, moving furniture, buying as much stock as they could afford and looking for fixtures and fittings on ebay etc.
It is now a thriving business, light and bright with colourful window displays. Inside there are bright displays of all types of wool, fabrics, cottons and buttons, not all on uniform shelves but on a 'shabby chic' Welsh dresser and even on a set of wooden steps !! They have also branched out into workshops during and after shop hours, such as a ”knit and natter afternoon”. Two weeks ago, they had their first all day workshop (Sunday 10am to 4pm) teaching how to make patchwork quilts, and they now have a waiting list for the next one!!!
So many small businesses are shutting down in Lichfield that it is so good to see one that is going from strength to strength.
You certainly fooled me, Gen2! Put it down to tiredness - I'd been out all day, coincidentally at the Knitting and Stitching Show. I did wait until 8,47 just in case, then went out on cat-feeding duties. Anyway:
