I have a lightweight shower proof jacket in cream that I love apart from the colour. Would it take a Dylon in the machine type fabric dye ? I would like to dye it black if it would take. Anybody ever dyed an anorak kind of jacket
successfully ?

It's very doubtfuly dye will work on a showerproof fabric, 1, because it's usually manmade and not natural and 2, because by the very nature of repelling water, it won't let the dye grab properly.
