I've been to Sri Lanka three times and they have always seemed peaceful to me. I have been told that in Thailand monks can't be arrested so criminals become monks to evade the law.

Anyone visited The Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, Sri Lanka?

The monks guarding the sacred relic when we visited years ago all looked like a mix of Brian Glover, Kojak and OddJob - only less friendly!
