HOW DOES it work when a competition can be entered online & by post.
Do they take all the postal entries and "add" them online to the other online entries , AND THEN PICK ONE AT RANDOM.- Just wondered , thats all.

They will first pick whether to choose a postal entry or an electronic one (50/50 so they could toss a coin). They will then pick from only the postal or only the email entries.

I've often wondered the same thing. Like the This Morning big prize (and Loose Women etc) - you can enter by phone, text or internet, so I suppose they first have to make a decision on from which method of entry the winner will be chosen. So if you've entered via a method not chosen, then you've wasted your time !

Selecting the postal or electronic pot by the toss of a coin would be seriously flawed, and therefore unlikely. It would only be fair if both pots were exactly the same size, or it would make the winning probability much higher for the smaller pot.

I would have thought it more likely that they number the entries across all types of submission, then use random numbers to select a number between 1 and the total number of entries, whichever pot that ends up being from. Eg. if there were 1000 electronic and 2000 postal, then number them 1-1000 for electronic, 1001-3000 for postal, and randomise a selection between 1 and 3000.

SALTY - Your suggestion seems fairer, but im still wondering what the ACTUAL system is that thay use.Is it as Quizmonkey says.
