This is not so bizarre as it sounds. The correct weight of passengers and their luggage is very important to the safety of the flight. Weight and balance calculations that are inaccurate have caused quite a few fatal accidents over the years. One accident in 2010 which was partially attributal to an overweight departure, led to the figures for "average weights" of passengers to be looked at. It was found that the last time the weights had been assessed was 1936!
So in answer to your question - yes I would be more than happy to fly for a carrier that showed they wanted accurate weights for their flight. Not sure how they sell tickets in advance though it they then weigh you on arrival at the airport. It will start a new trend of slimming down before flying!

as long as they have seats commensurate with the weight, as most are so small that if you are seated next to someone rather large, you get squished.

Ok thought about this! The problem here is that it will peanalise heavy people as well as fat ones. Far better to develop a system based on some sort of body composition formula but I can see the need to do something.

Yes I would, especially if it meant I didn't have to pay as much as the larger person sitting across the way.

Oh yes and I won't be unhappy if Ryanair decides to charge per kilo. I do feel for very tall people.....having to pay extra for beyond their control height.... but at 5ft nothing and not overweight I won't feel too bad.......sorry tall people. ;-) x

It would hurt me (as a big bloke) but does actually seem a much more fair fare system.

Perhaps a maximum total weight for you and all your bags (with a charge per kilo over that) would be an easier option to implement ... I just need to find a small travelling companion :)

I remember when I worked for the World's Favourite we did a few flights where everybody got weighed to check the veracity of the notional weights.

I remember hearing about an aircraft that could not lift off the runway. They checked out the situation and found that most of those on board were going to a coin convention and had all their precious coins in their hand luggage in the overhead lockers!

perhaps it would be pertinent to put the larger folk in one part of the plane, with slightly larger seats, and those not of a large frame in the smaller seats, can see the human rights brigade having a field day with that one. unless of course some airlines do it, never thought of that. x

It does seem wrong that (at 6ft 3in) I have to pay extra for a 'legroom' seat, or suffer pain and possible injury by being folded into a standard seat.

Imagine if there were only a few seats that black people (or women, or gays for that matter) could fly safely in - charging extra for those would probably not be acceptable?

as you have explained how you take up more of the plane's available space/capacity than others because you are 6'3"

can you please explain how someone being black or female would take up more of the plane's available space/capacity?
