The Royal Mail have issued a set of stamps today with one or two hard to recognise Britons. Here are some previous issues of famous Britons.

Okay...without looking at the answers that others have posted:

The first is definitely Fred Perry.

The fifth is Emeline Pankhurst. The seventh is Donald someone (world speed record on water).

The ninth is Samuel Pepys?

I have to say - I only got those by looking at the background. Without that...I wouldn't have a clue.

i dont think that is emeline pankhurst, she was dark and fairly attractive and Peeps was dark too :S is it the suffragette that chucked herself under the horse?

Fred Perry, Henry Purcell, Matt Busby, and Gladstone, Then Conan Doyle with the walrus moustache. Not sure about the others, although maybe Johnson toward the end there?

Johnson and I thought Odette, but that's it. Might be Conan Doyle with the magnifying glass but that's cheating and looking at the background, and I'm still nto sure.

Why did the Post Office not put the names of these people on the stamps in the first place ? If the reason that we have for putting famous people on our stamps is to commemorate them, what is the point if so few members of the public know who they are ?
