The fact to carry around with you is:
one pound in 1914 and yes I realise the q was dollars - bought what £10 did in 1972 the year of decimalisation and £100 of money now
and one sov or a pound in 1914 didnt change much in value from 1815.
and there you are - you have money inflation for sterling over 200 y in your head !

yeah and two times when the pound deflated - ie bought more at the end than at the beginning and that is 1890-1900 and surprisingly 1920-29
but th sort ofe effect is peanuts - 1890 as 100 then 1900 as 108.9

The 1914-18 war was looked at the time as a time of Great inflation
however looking back on the second war and seventies,
WASNT that great - but was perceived so at the time b/c the value hadnt moved for 100 y.
