Thanks barender -That's what I thought, but I can't develop from these -see latest posting!

Crofter, "accomplishes chore" suggests to me something like "CLEARS UP" or "CLEANS UP" or even "TIDIES UP".

I can't see how "chore" fits with "STUMPS UP" ... unless I'm missing something!

Aquariel, I must confess I am not 100% happy with STUMPS UP, but I thought that there may be a cricketing term "to stump up" - ie to prepare the wicket for a game of cricket! That could be thought of as a chore? I think that barender is trying the same line of thought.

Once the series is over, the STUMPS are pulled UP?

Chambers gives for stump up only the usual meaning of to pay up, fork out.

You were on the right lines, Aquareil. The answer has just occurred to me - it's WASHES UP.

Thanks to one and all!
