The Good Old British Weather, We Dont Half Moan About It Sometimes, Are We Justified In Giving Our Climate Such A Hard Time?

I actually like the British weather, we are really lucky I think!

We don't get any extremes of weather, we don't get large scale flooding, generally just a few shops and houses washed out by an unusual downpour and back to normal in a few day or weeks, very rarely loss of life.

We don't get large prolonged heatwaves, 1976? was the last prolonged heatwave, people did experience drought conditions in some areas but nobody should have suffered unduly, we could still get water from standpipes,

Our winters are usually very mild and only amount to a few inches of snow in England, a bit more in Wales and more again in Scotland, this causes some disruption for sure, again the disruption is usually down to the fact that we often are just not prepared for snow.

People die in extreme weather for sure, that happens in every country. All in all, I think we have a very stable and balanced climate I like our weather, I admit that it would be nice to have more defined seasons so we could judge and anticipate the weather a bit easier.

People that suffer from our weather conditions usually only suffer because this country is not used to dealing with it or they are unable to cope due to age or health related conditions.

Agree with you. I just think we like to talk about the weather because it is so varied .. Nowt wrong in that..just glad we don't get too much of the extreme weather some other countries fac.

At the moment yes! half way through May, N/Kent coast, sitting inside, everything closed, doors, windows etc, and seriously considering putting heating on

Craft, people emigrate for lots of reasons and one of those reasons is that they want long hot summers and warm winters. We don't get that here. My point is that we have a very balanced weather system with very few extremes.

I think the weather in this country is cr@p and it`s the one thing that would make me emigrate (not to Europe - it`s cr@p there much of the time as well). I wouldn`t care what kind of winters we had if it meant having a proper summer but we don`t have proper summers anymore - just grey sky and wind.

I like our varied weather. I'd hate to live in the middle of a large land mass where the weather is the same day after day, week after week....

A Bulgarian mate of mine couldn't get over how green England was when he came over to work, well the thrill soon wore off when he realised why it was so green.

Lol Frank tis true all that water! I would rather have that than the burnt brown verges that a lot of countries experience permanently.

Yes we are justified .I'm sick of the rain summer after summer .I've been flooded out and I can assure you it's no joy ride . Neither was it was fun for the people of Gloucester and York who were flooded over and over again .
Did you miss the snow which covered us recently ? It was a lot more than a few inches deep .
It's freezing here on the east coast today .I'm in a thick jumper and the heating is on .It's the middle of my May for Gods sake .My bones ache and I want some hot sunshine ....so there !

I was in Wales yesterday and was amazed at how lush and green the fields were, ok so there was still some snow on the hills from last weeks snow fall but not a lot.

I have worked outside my whole life and here this week it chucked down all day long on Tuesday but Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday have been lovely sunny days. However, if it rains at the weekend people will moan. There is an unrealistic expectation of weather patterns as if they should somehow follow people's needs and days off.

Shaneystar, take a trip to the red lion at wainlodes near you and look at the tide marks on the pub wall. The Severn has always burst its banks and a lot worse than in recent years. Not that that makes it any easier for those flooded though. :)

Shaneystar, after re-reading your post don't go to the red lion as its a long way from the east coast and a pint of stowford press is good but not that good! :)

Lol doctor db ...I can walk down the road to the Dock Tavern however and see the marks on their wall from the east coast floods of '53 .You need to be a pretty tall person to reach them :)
