Hi all , just received a message on my phone, from one of my contacts, through Whatsapp:

LMessage from Jim Balsamic (CEO of Whatsapp) we have had an over usage of user names on whatsapp messenger. We are requesting all users to forward this message to their entire contact list. If you do not forward this message, we will take it as your account is invalid and it will be deleted within the next 48 hours. Please DO NOT ignore this message or whatsapp will no longer recognise your activation. If you wish to reactivate your account after it has been deleted, a charge of 25.00 will be added to your monthly bill. We are also aware of the issue involving the pictures updates not showing. We are working diligently at fixing this problem and it will be up and running as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation from the whatsapp team. Whatsapp is going to cost us money soon. The only way that it will stay free is if you are a frequent user i.e. you have at least 10 people you are chatting with. To become a frequent user send this message to 10 people who receive it (2 ticks) and your whatsapp logo will change colour. Send this to 8 people to activate the new whatsapp.

Has anyone else had one of these - is it a scam and if so, to what end ?? I can't see how forwarding this to contacts, can cause any damage (even though I haven't done so).
Does anyone know if this is for real - I'm guessing it's not ??

Cheers .... I thought as much - I just wanted to make sure :)
Ignore it, I haven't received any messages from them,
I do have to pay 89cents in a month's time for another year's usage, and that is fine by me.
Never heard of whatsapp, what is it?

It's an app where you can send texts, images and videos and it doesn't cost anything. It uses the internet, so if, like me, you don't have any allowance in your price plan for sending images, etc - you can use whatsapp and it won't cost you - as long as the recipient is using whatsapp as well.
A scam, just like those who 'phone and imply they are acting as microsoft agents and have identified faults on your computer but are scammers. Whatever Whatsapp is they would surely secure-mail you.
Would the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) called "balsamic vinegar" 'phone "little old you" and all other customers?
Ignore them.
SIQ.
