But I've just looked up "Job" in Chambers and there is a second definition:
To prod or peck suddenly. (So Job is the same as Jab.)
Could someone tell me if I'm on the right track with this? My possible answer to the quotation and author is 8 (letters), 4 and 10 - this is what I've come up with after solving three-quarters of the clues(but with lots of clashes that I haven't yet sorted!). It would be great to know if I have -or haven't - lead myself astray.
Thanks - I should have been clearer (I DID mean, were the entries all real words?). That should help a lot - my other problem is that everything is in very light pencil so I have to peer to see what the answers (before treatment) are.
