The Succession to the Crown Act 2013 means that male precedence in the order of succession is no more. Also as part of the same Act members of the royal family who marry a Catholic will no longer lose their place in line to the throne (although there remains a ban on Catholics actually succeeding to the throne).

The Act received Royal Assent in April but has not yet come into force as some Commonwealth countries have still to formally give their agreement (although they all agreed to it in principle last year).
