Have any of you driven over the Furka pass and visited the Rhone Glacier? Just wondering how long it takes to walk to the glacier from Belvedere and what sort of footwear is suitable. Wasn't going to pack my walking boots. Are trainers ok?
According to this, if you've reached the (free) car park at the Hotel Belvedere, you're already where you want to be: http://www.tourist-guide.biz/Zermatt/RhoneGlacier.html (See the note about footwear). . . . and here's a picture to prove it: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/63613506
not really an answer, but I've walked downhill from the bottom of the glacier (ie alongside the Rhone, which is a stream at that stage) and it's easy going, well manicured Swiss countryside, trainers were fine. Can't offer any advice about the uphill side, though.
That's brilliant, thank you guys. I hadn't come across that website Chris, though I've found a few. Trainers it is, and a woolly jumper. Oh, and I'd better not forget my camera!
Thanks bhg - I've seen that mentioned on t'interweb, for a fee of CHE 7 each I think. I'm really looking forward to it - providing I don't get lost on the way!
