Long Weekend Away In Scotland

Most of my friends and myself turn 30 this/next year and we want to go somewhere to celebrate. Originally we were looking at somewhere over seas but due to circumstances arising we have decided to look closer to home. I'm thinking Scotland........to rent some kind of cottage that holds 8-10 lads that's near to the city centre. This is supposed to be taking place around April 2014.

Where are the best places to look for this type of thing and would you recommend booking early/now. Or can we wait till nearer time. I have never booked a cottage/barn before so don't really know how quick they get booked up.

Don't really want to spend more than about £300 for the whole holiday.

An 8-bed dorm costs a total of £42 per person when booked for the night of Fri/Sat/Sun via Hostelworld, with a 12-bed dorm costing £39 per person.

That's above your budget but the savings through not having to travel into the city centre might cancel out the excess anyway. (Since you'd be looking to book an entire dorm it might make sense to contact them directly, as you could well get a decent discount).

Depends on which city.....I rented lovely croft cottages north Of Inverness andgret fun re pubs, celidhs, whisky tasting and the ancient art of "flog" - and some cracking fishing too (salmon) on the croft near Dornoch (1 hr from Inverness Airport).

Many cottage owners won't rent to you if you let on it will be a party of all lads.

From experience I'd book sooner rather than later. When I tried to book a cottage in Scotland in November for the following February most of my top choices were already booked.

If you are thinking Edinburgh...then you need to get in early...but no cottages in city...lots of budget hotels on the perifories....premier inns etc....lots of b and b accommodation in city ...
