If my memory serves me correctly the answer is LOAFER, it was in one of my crosswords last week.
I just cannot remember which crossword, wish Author had told us the name of the magazine/paper.

Factor I think it is merely a person who makes loaves?

maybe to do with "trademark - a formally registered symbol identifying the manufacturer or distributor of a product"

But why machine? A loafer may be a play on words for someone who makes loaves but that's not one of the meanings as far as I know

I believe the answer ia "EARNER" . Bread can mean money so Wage Earner otherwise Bread Winner. Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
