Everyman last one: '3D Valuable wood from this place? Better off spending capital' (6,4) Letters I have are _O_U_T _R_E so I think the answer is LOCUST TREE but not entirely happy how that works out cryptically. LOCUS possibly 'from this place' and the end letter T and TREE are the letters in 'Better' less the 'B' so perhaps the reference to 'spending capital' means leaving off the first letter. If so that leaves 'Valuable wood' as the possible overall non cryptic description of the locust tree - is it a valuable wood?
Or has anyone got any simpler and/or better ideas on it?

locus (place) + anagram of (b)etter
The locust tree produces valuable wood, yes (see Chambers for instance); the rest is probably a pun on low-cost, isn't it? Your calculations on the letters are right, too, though!
Sorry - sent before finishing - locus (place) + anagram of (b)etter has to be correct.
Locust is a hard wood so presumably expensive

Thanks to you both - good to get some reassurance. I can't help but feel it isn't one of their better clues!
