The mortal woman on whom all the Gods had bestowed gifts was sent by Zues to punish humankind because Prometheus had stolen fire from heaven. Pandora's box was a jar or box containing all human ills and evils, all of which were released into the world when she opened it. Hope alone remained in tjhe box.
