Whereas I have every admiration for this young girl, but was there a need to bestow on her the title of 'the country’s most influential Asian', at this year’s GG2 Leadership and Diversity Awards?

Once again I stress this is not about her not being worthy of such an award, only the point of why is it necessary to hold such awards?

The same being said regarding this award,

/// The GG2 Young Journalist of the Year award, which is sponsored by the Daily Mail, was won by Nazia Dewji, a 25-year-old reporter for the Surrey Comet and Kingston Guardian. ///

/// The annual prize is open to journalists under 30 from any ethnic minority. ///

Once again I do not doubt the worthiness of these two youngsters to be awarded these honours only the need for them to be conducted in the first place.

This very brave girl nearly lost her life...why would anyone begrudge her a small award !
Beats me AOG.......the Annual Diversity Award....the most powerful Asian..............I just don't get it.

\\\\\She beat One Direction star Zayn Malik as well as Keith Vaz MP\\\

She beat Keith Vaz.........so that has cheered me up.
Well it's because this is Asia, if it was USA we'd have USA awards and in Australia, Australian awards. Isn't that obvious. Sounds a bit patronising to me.

Read what I put, I repeated it three times, so as to stop such as you high jacking the thread with such statements, but I should have guessed that a member of the usual suspects would still try.

Blimey I always thought that the UK was in Europe.

Oh but I did, since I was accused of begrudging her a small award.

But while on the subject of replies, why did you also find the need to mention jam on toast?
That's the Mail's twist on it. What she actually won, and rightly so, was the Hammer Award, the highest award given by the GG2 Leadership Award.

How the hell did she beat Zayn Malik????

I don't mind this award even though you could argue that there's no equivalent award for non-Asians.

No skin off my nose.

But really...beating Zayn Malik?

Where's the logic in that????
All awards are discriminatory by their very definition.

"Best Album" - can only be won by a music artist who has released an album.

"Footballer Player of the Year" - can only be won by someone who has played football very well in the last year.

Mountains/Molehills...
Just noticed the second highest rated comment on the Daily Mail site:

The UK's leading activist? But she's from Pakistan isn't she? Please go home.

Lovely.
The GG2 Hammer Award, which is given to individuals who have broken through the glass ceiling, was handed to Miss Yousafzai and her two friends Kainat Riaz and Shazia Ramzan.

we have oscars and grammys and baftas, & nobel prizes, why not these? they honour people who have stood up for themselves and others, breaking barriers, seems like a good thing to me
AOG

You asked:

"Once again I do not doubt the worthiness of these two youngsters to be awarded these honours only the need for them to be conducted in the first place."

I would suggest that there is such a constant stream of negative stories regarding Asians in general, that positive stories such are this are needed to redress the balance?
SP1814,
You are quite right, there are a lot of negative things about blacks/Asians.
SP...well said.
no, SP said there are a lot of negative stories about asians, thats a very different thing, but you knew that
/Blimey I always thought that the UK was in Europe/
That's irony for you, difficult to get right sometimes

As mccfluff has pointed out - that's not what I meant.

I wouldn't want to generalize like that anyway.
