Disappearing Free Books?

Via an iPad App I searched for 'Card Tricks' and downloaded one of about 5 of the free books offered.
The tricks were OK but the English was hopeless so I deleted it and went to look for one of the others that had been listed. The only ones that now appear have to be paid for.
Is this a clever ruse - to offer freebies only the once?
