I knew TDB well and the SEG base in Station Rd. Was a home beat in Barnes for a while.

Indeed - was on Area 5/500 when it first started, did you ever play there?

The 500 unit was an armed response unit set up as a result of a 'hit' list found in a London IRA bomb factory with a load of addresses of notables on it. It was made up of divisional AFO's with a trafpol driver and was on call for any suspect activity near any of the addresses. Each area had one. It was the first time armed units had routinely patrolled the streets and was phased out when the armed response cars came on line.
