I thought this weeks was quite difficult but a bit unsatisfactory because I got most of the thematic entries before working out the answers to the thematic clues. Can someone please explain why the answer to "Lesbian in Centre Court upset" should be "butch" ?

Hub = centre, ct = court". Put ct in hub and "upset" it (turn it over).

I am stumped on the final step, involving highlighting. But I've got on the face of it a clash at the start of 41a, which I think I must have got wrong. I've got it as beginning with N, describing a Lord's political position, but with that answer I can't work out the wordplay at all. Any hints to 41a?

I have managed to complete the grid and spot the "process" but fail to understand how it has been applied. I have solved only 5 of the 11 thematic clues, but this has proved enough to enable to me work out which grid entry to highlight. It seems therefore that I have finished, or am I missing something? If one can complete a puzzle without fully understanding it, it is indeed - as Kobnut says - "a bit unsatisfactory"!

25D - Angers drivers this side (road busy by Italian quarter)
They both might have an extra word in, as I'm still a couple of theme definitions short,

I have another word for potato with disgusting as the spare word for 6A, and the French for "on the right" with Angers spare at 25D. Hope this helps.
I'm stuck on 23 & 26 down so any hints would be appreciated here!

6A is TATIE = another word for potato, as is Murphy.

'Disgusting' is not a spare word, it's an anagram indicator of -

AT IT, + E for internet.

There is no spare word in 25D. Angers is town in France, so it's part of the clue.

23D is a garment worn for pilgrimage.
So the wordplay is I = one, then R= right contained inside a word meaning coarse.

26D is the title of a work by George Eliot.

Oops! I should have counted my spare words and realised I had too many. Thanks Boreas. I had actually pencilled in the correct answer to 23d but couldn't find the 3 letter part as meaning COARSE in my thesaurus. Have now found it in Chambers. Strangely I solved the include entries early on, then found the replacements from the single words, only solving the thematic clues at the end. Odd!
