"Cranks", that's a musical and the answer connects to the mechanics trade.

Well fleurbird, it may be wrong but the only answer I could find to fit the clue. Dating from 1956 and starring Anthony Newley and Annie Ross. You could type it in and see what comes up. If it's wrong then I apologise for passing it on.
