Feel a bit sorry for those inflicted thus by the purveyors of fairy tales, could this be one of the few thiings in the EU that actually help the British?

I don't see why house owners should have to pay for the church's neglect of their property. Perhaps the church should be sued for negligence since it must be their responsibility to oversee maintainace. It is probably a deliberate ploy by the church to avoid dipping into their maintainance funds.

It's obviously ridiculous. I'm not sure why the EU would get involved though. The UK Govt. could and should sort it out.

In any system of government or legal system, there is a top layer one can appeal to. I'm unsure one can base a belief that the EU is helpful simply because on some occasions they may support what seems common sense when we usually hear the reverse.

But yes I agree that locals should not be still liable for the costs of the State religions building upkeep. Many any years ago when a church was the pride of the local people then it may seem sensible that they contribute the required funds, but belief in the dominant religion is no longer something that can be expected. Over time it has become clearer that a religious organisation, no matter what status it has, is the keeper of its own assets and should expect to raise its own funding no simply pass it on to local victims er I mean residents. So a change in the law is long overdue.

I live within spitting distance of our church and we were recently hit with this. .50 quid they wanted .We refused to pay it.Told the greedy vicar where to get off and have heard nothing since .They can whistle for it ...or pray:)

Does this not show up when a house is sold during the searches? There was a lot of publicity about this some years ago, I thought it had all been sorted.
