The first episode of the new series, entitled "Trove", started in the usual Morse/Endeavour style with highly important snippets of hints for the plot as the titles went up. Over this a brooding piece of classical music was playing. It sounded like the overture or chorus to an opera or an excerpt from an oratorio. Can anybody tell me what it was? I also thought I heard an excerpt from Bach's St. Matthew Passion quite late on in the programme. Did I?

Also very intriguing during the programme: was that Colin Dexter sitting on a bench in a misty college quad as Morse and a colleague walked past? AND we met the Copeley-Barnes family, from the great Morse episode about the child molesting master of Beaufort College, played by Geoffrey Palmer.

I'm posting to push my original question up the order. What was the classical music at the very start of last Sunday's episode of "Endeavour"?
I don't know the answer but I do recall reading something praising Barrington Pheloung for the incidental music in the episode.
