got to be smokey Robinson really. Either they spelt it wrong or wrote down the number of letters wrong.

Thank you jasmin26 I did think of Smokey Robinson but cannot tie Robinson in with the clue and Smokey is 6 not 5 but thank you for replying. Thank you Vicasso I also thought os spelling it that way but that is not correct according to google. Thank you dannyk13 I have never heard of a group called The Elgins.

I think that Smoky Robinson is the answer although the spelling is not correct. Robinson comes from Mrs Robinson a character in The Graduate)
