Should religion be banned in state supported schools ?

Religion is frequently the most divisive factor in society , should it therefore be left to parents to make independent arrangements outside schools.
In that way children could learn to live together in a neutral school environment.

For years we have been brain washing our children to follow one faith out of hundreds. Not one of which can be Proved to be anything more than the myths of yesteryear.

Faith schools, as in Birmingham are examples of this virus being paid for by us all .

We don't officially teach party politics in state schools , so why emphasise
certain faiths. The present government's policy of encouraging faith schools will turn us into another Northern Ireland.

Yes, it's a load of outdated and primitive superstition and our children's minds shouldn't be poisoned with it.

'Bann' does that include Marriages?
^Only for 5th formers and above. ;o)

Yes!!
Yes, ban all religions in schools.
If the parents and child are religious, let them go to the church of their faiths in their own time.
You only have to imagine a Nazi school . . . . . .
Leave children's minds free of all indoctrination and brainwashing.
Teach logic, ethics, reasoning and lateral thinking instead.
Then wait and watch their reaction if you offer them religion at the age of 18.
My guess would be hysterical laughter.
No, our Monarch is head of the church and christianity is the religion of this country - I am getting fed up with various groups and religions trying to dilute everything that is British in our country - white christian are the indigenous peoples in this country - but not for much longer if we don't take heed.

Teaching about Religion is fine, after all it impinges on so much of the History of the World.
My children go to a c of e school but it's not very 'churchy' and they learn about a variety of religions. Even non-faith schools teach about all religions it's just another aspect of the world we live in and should be taught (not force fed).

I had RE lessons when I was at school, didn't brain wash me and neither did they try to.
When we like to question christianity we are allowed to (without the threat of death). Anyone in this country can adopt whichever religion they want (except muslims) who face the threat of apostasy, which carries the death sentence. My relative became a JW in her 30's and as a family we all respect her beliefs.
Of course they never Tonyav.
I am with karenkay on this one.
Yes, absolutely it should. I am fed up of religion forcing its way into the public sphere. If people really wish to believe in it, they have no right to expect special institutions or privileges.
Yes, it should be banned in all schools full stop. The teachings of fantasy have no place in an educational establishment.
Yes.
Yes. All faith lessons should be in churches, synagogues, mosques etc.

Not schools.

If parents want their children brought up within a faith doctrine, then they can do so at home or in their chosen place of worship.

Incidentally, I'm loving the poster who's being roundly ignored in this debate.

Funny.
I agree, sp. It certainly shouldn't be taught alongside other subjects as if it's the truth.
I suppose teaching them political correctness instead of religion is the way to go?
