Jean Philippe Rameau
Rameau didnt do Daphnis and Chloe, Rameau WAS responsible for Daphnis et Egle - I appreciate that the quizmail question relates to being "based on" but i would advise caution on this one- (speaking from experience as ive torn all my hair out looking for this :-))

I'm also confused and don't think that Rameau is the answer.
 Maurice Ravel
..Ravel was French and he certainly wrote a ballet Daphnis et Chlo ....not really too well up in this subject but just a thought...commoner
lol..sorry val ..you posted whilst I was still thinking about it....<G>
Couldn't find any connection for Ravel to anything based on Pygmalion :-) not saying that it isn't Ravel but numerous hours looking into this (sadly:-)) lead me to believe it isn't Ravel either.
I think it's Jean -Jacques Rousseau.
He was a philospher but also a composer.
Both the above are credited to him.
Rousseau was born in Switzerland but is often described as a Swiss-French philosopher so he would probably be O.K. as the answer.

Thanks everyone for your help. Rousseau is the person I was researching so nice to hear somebody else thinks the same. Cheers!
