Manchester Fire At Dogs Home

Listening to this I was heart broken. Those poor dogs and the people that cared for them, my heart goes out to you. What a wonderful community spirit was shown last night by the people of Manchester who turned out with whatever they could bring to help this awful situation. I think it is marvelous the amount of money that has been raised so far to help get this, very important place, up and running again and I hope that the dogs that survived this terrible event are not too traumatised. As for the boy that did it I cannot say what I think of him but I know what he should get. He is old enough to know what he was doing and that it was wrong, very wrong.

Over £700,000 donated so far, plus most of the major dog food firms are sending food and equipment.

The help they have received has been heartwarming, people flooding into the home bringing food, blankets, dog beds and donating so much money - restored your faith somewhat. I hope they throw the book at the little toerag who started the fire, but I suspect not much will happen to him in soft touch Britain!

I know, he should be named and shamed, and then arrested for 43 counts of animal cruelty as well as arson. I like to think I am a liberal person, but a 15 year old is responsible for what he does and he's not far from being an adult and I fear he will get away with it. If I had by way I'd burn him at the stake just so he can see how it feels. I work in a dogs and cats home and I just can't help thinking about the pain and suffering that must have gone on.

Tescos had collecting boxes out earlier too when I went to make a donation. Waiting to see if they have another collection of items, there was one earlier at a police station but by the time I saw it I'd never had got up and out, bought some things and got there in time.

No i dont think the gormless 15 y o should be actually

people are queuing up on the media to ask where he lives and then stating an intention to burn out his parents. Arson if he is convicted does not result in a slap on the hand but a long sentence. I feel sorry for all concerned. I am sure there are dog lovers in the prison population

I did think - God he hasnt sat down and worked out a career plan has he ?

the one I spoke to, spoke of a compulsion
He had set fire to five buses in a station
Parents agreed
Not his first offence
and he was looking at a life sentence...
and quite happy to admit that if he got out, he would do it again.....

The trouble is at 15 he won't get a long sentence, what do you do with a 15 year old? Not that I would wish harm on his family, I also wondered if he actually meant the outcome of his action to be so horrendous, if he did then I can't see him being anything other than a pointless human being.

I think he is more than 'gormless', Peter and you don't have to be a dog-lover to condemn his appalling actions. I agree people shouldn't take it out on his parents, but at 15 I know damn well he will not get true justice. It is horrific and he should be tried for more than Arson.

Yes according to the Sunday Mirror "he was recently the victim of a dog attack and had spent time in hospital."

Donations now up to over £1.3 million. I delivered a van load of stuff to Pets At Home today, who are acting as a collection point. It was all collected at our dog show yesterday. Such a great response.
