Any advice on how to set up a video camera in a totally dark loft space in a house, which is motion sensor activated. I have seen expensive kit on the internet, but this is needed hopefully temporarily to see what critters are partying up there through the night and keeping people in the bedroom below awake.
If we can determine what they are then a plan of action can be 'devised' !
Most camera's I have seen do not work in total darkness.

why not use trap's (cages and glue bards) would be cheaper, or just get a video camera linked to a large data storage and record the entire evening
Alternatively get a cat.

Any pest controller should be able to tell you within 5 minutes of an inspection. What are you hearing? Please don't use glue boards, they really are so cruel!!
Traps make sense unless the 'critters' are endangered , such as bats.
Sorry meant protected but the same sentiment.
If you don't know what creature you are dealing with, what type of trap will you use?
Good point,a mouse trap won't catch a bear.

I'll leave it to the experts.
The problem is very unlikely to be caused by bats, in 13 years as a pest controller, I have never heard of bats making a sound that was heard by a householder.
We heard scurrying noises, which seemed to be in in our loft.

It turned out to be birds getting in and walking up and down in the soffits.

No camera would have seen them there.
