My mum (80 YO) told me she used to be part of the Cheery Coons club when she was a little girl. Thank goodness we're more enlightened eh?

Ooooooh :-\
You should read the words to the songs in my ancient Scout song book....
Shoots, you're 103, though x

There's many a good tune played on an old fiddle....
I recall my Gran mentioning the 'Eb and Flo' cartoon strip featured on that badge Zacs.
That's the second time someone has said that to me today. He did add - the bow is a bit bent though...
Mind you, the bow is a bit bent these days....
Hmmmmm! I remember a comic when I was young, can't remember which one, which had Mustapha Lot -a rich Arab I think...
That's quite shocking, Talbot...
But having terminal manfluenza, I feel like 103.....
Aaaaawwwwww xx
I don't think the club in Talbot's link was shocking though - the characters were Imps who lived on the Moon, the rules of the club were charming and polite.

Is 'Noggin the Nog' shocking?
I don't know how the original club that had good intentions managed to end up sharing the name of an offensive term for black people.

Anyone know how it happened?

I've never heard of it, mamya. Would be surprised to see that anywhere-although I'm not sure why.
I read the whole article on the link.
I didn't -just the name.
Tee hee. They still have a coon carnival in Cape Town every year.
