Listener No 4332 Augeas Two's Company
14 Answers
Congratulations Augeas on a compilation that would have pleased even Radix in the way it all hung together - theme, title, method of entry. The quotation we were directed to was intriguing and amusing too. This must have been demanding to compile and from previous (deleted) threads, it was clear that all the regulars were impressed and enjoyed solving it.

I second that.
Just a quiet plea from me (for what little it is worth). Clearly, there is a divergence of views on how explicitly hints etc should be given in relation to a live puzzle. And there is room for more than one approach. But surely everyone involved in the debate has one thing in common - a love of the Listener - and this is all getting lost in the carping and snide remarks. Surely we can all collectively do better than that? There is a very nice comment on the crossword solver site to that effect, and I fully agree with it. Some of the abuse has really descended to almost youtube levels - ugh - and it really doesn't serve anyone.
Sorry if that sounds hopelessly shcmucky, but it's all become a bit "you said", "...no but you said..." - and surely we have more in common than divides us.
And, given that this thread is all about one particular crossword and I have already meandered back to a debate that should probably take place elsewhere - thank you Augeas, again - it was brilliant.

Yes, a fine puzzle. Although I found the entry method at the end a bit fiddly, so hopefully haven't made any mistakes.
In terms of the debate... perhaps we here could do ourselves a bit of a favour by not talking about crosswordsolver.org as "the other site" as if, like Voldemort, we dare not speak its name.

I confess to referring to CF as the other site, but every time I have done so it has been with the tongue in cheek thought of the other place from twin peaks. A year and a half or so agO when I used CF to help learn to do these I refered to here by the same. There is a place for everyone in this world (petes dragon).
Nice puzzle but a good chance of entering the answers wrongly!
With regard to the curent debate, I've stopped coming to this site until I've sent my entry. Even apparently innocuous comments can lead to hints to help solve a puzzle. It seems that some want to do more than that however. It is a free forum and there are no rules as such but it seems disappointing that some people want to post comments to display their cleverness by giving big pointers to the solution. This seems against the wishes of the majority of people on the forum so why do it?
