Attic Stairs

I am considering having an attic stairs installed to relieve me the hassle of bringing in the ladder every time i wish to go to the attic.
Should i go and get one directly installed by well attic stairs manufacturers or should i buy the attic stairs separately from building company and get a carpenter to install it.
Which is the best and cheapest option ?

Where a roofspace is defined as a "non-habitable room", the normal rules and dimensions (Building Regulations) don't apply. You have the choice of a permanent setup where the stair is fixed, or the type that folds up in the roof above the trapdoor.

You'll need plenty of room for a fixed stair in order to be able to walk around it. For the retractable one, just buy one off the shelf and have it fitted by a local handyman. They're pretty easy to fit.

No need for any of those "specialist" companies. They'll only make a (costly) drama out of it.

Just keep in mind, at least here in the U.S., the fold outs The Builder describes are rated at various weight limits. The cheapest are only limited to about 150 pounds (US) and that isn't very much weight. Don't scrimp on the quality...

I fitted my own ladders some years ago,looked like the two section one in builders Screwfix ad,took about four hours to do including changing the hatch to a "drop down".One of the best alterations I've done to the old placethings
