3 beakers. First holds 10 cups of water, Second holds 7 cups of water and the Third holds three cups of water.
The 10 cup holder is full of water.
How do you shuffle them to get 5 cups of water in one holder?

Empty the 10 cup vessel, i.e. throw away the 1 cupful.
