Have you ever seen a british bird book with a normal pigeon in it
According to the RSPB the most common bird is the wren but most commonly actually seen is the sparrow.
I don't want to count the feral pigeons in my garden, but there are far too many!

popular and common are not the same thing
Feral pigeons are far less common in the countryside. We have four resident Wood pigeons, collared doves, dozens of sparrows, a few wrens, blue tits, great tits, blackbirds and starlings. Fairly typical I think.
I would personally have said that the blackbird is the most popular.
Maydup, not typical at all for me. I can only dream of a few wrens, I get one now and again and as for sparrows, very few.
Yesterday the RSPB published the results of the Big Garden Birdwatch. The house sparrow came top as the bird with the highest count. It is not a popularity contest.
chicken!
The blackbird was spotted by the highest number of people and the sparrow was recorded in the highest numbers. Naturally as they live in larger groups.

Not forgetting the magpies who seem to have chased many other species away.
