Captain I didn't realise she was 42 and yes I think 42 is considered fairly old, at least for a first baby. I had my son when I was 35 and my doc said I was an elderly primigravida (cheeky sod)

I think 42 is considered fairly old, but it's a lot more common than it used to be. I wonder if I could manage another one now at 45. Actually, no. I couldn't stand the worry. I know what would lie ahead.

Really pleased (didn't realise she was that old) Barbara has a lot to live up to! I sort of heard that a baby had arrived a few days ago. Dislike dad's style etc. adore mum's and she is No. 1 on my dream list of dinner-party guests (has been ever since she wandered, duffel-coated, through 'Balderdash and Piffle').

When my elder daughter was born I was 26 - and the hospital noted me as 'elderly primagravida'! I felt sooo old and useless.

A German lady, my age, has just had quads. I mentioned this to Mr. J. and he sort of shrivelled.... (phew, babies are hard work!).
