A LP is and African Hunting Dog/Painted Dog/African Wild Dog but the supporting letters I have are ?Y?N?/??G which looks as though hyena is in the answer.

Baldric thank you for the link - it takes me to the AWD site which I know quite well having family who have worked on research and survey of AWD's in Botswana. Hyena Dog is simply not a term I've come across especially as Lycaon Pictus refers to AWD. But.....we live and learn!
